Testimonial from George Stebbings

I have been treated by Dr. McHenry for approximately two years and currently seeing him twice a week for “maintenance.”

My story: I am 65 years old and started “abusing” my body at an early age. OK, abuse may not be the proper term. Leave it to say I have been hard on back most of my life. As a teenager, I was run over by a car, fell from the top of a 30ft elm tree and suffered several sports injuries. As an adult, I have been in a number of auto accidents – majority rear end collisions (I was the one hit in the rear), have had a number of surgeries including heart surgery, worked jobs where heavy lifting was involved and haven’t done much through the years to strengthen my core muscles.

There were times, prior to seeing Dr. McHenry, where I could not move because of the intensity of the pain in my neck, shoulders and back. I rarely slept through the night and typically in the morning’ would have to literally roll out of bed because I could not sit-up. I would stiffen up if , sat in a chair for any period of time and I felt that my movement was restricted because of my lack of flexibility. There were occasions where’ was restricted to bed because of severe back spasm.

I previously sought out chiropractors, but had little success. My last chiropractor visit was 20 years ago. My relief options: take extremely high doses of Aleve daily and when’ had the opportunity, have a deep tissue massage.

I decided to make an appointment with Dr. McHenry shortly after he opened his Tampa practice. He suggested an aggressive therapy intervention – 4 days a week for three months and scaling back once the major issues were addressed.

Although most of my pain was in my mid to lower back, he started with a combination of treatments that included a focus on my atlas and spine. His techniques were all new to me. As for outcomes, it wasn’t long before’ was sleeping through the night and in the morning I could sit up and get out of bed with little to no pain. I love to play golf and within 30 days, I was able to lower my handicap by 3 strokes because of my increased flexibility. I can even turn my head from side-to-side now, something I couldn’t do prior to seeing Dr. McHenry. I have not had any back spasm episodes either.

I invested in a couple pair of foot levelers and put them in the shoes I wear the most. Dr. McHenry also suggested exercises to strengthen my core muscles and’ also changed my diet -lost weight which also helped.

As noted, I have been a patient for nearly two years. I would say that’ maintain a very active lifestyle. My wife and I travel and dance; I play golf 3-5 times a week, ride a bike three days a week and “putt” around a lot. During this period, I have not had one reoccurrence where’ felt inhibited from doing anything because of my back. I even drove a U-Haul truck 2,000 miles across county as my grandson was transitioning from one duty station to another.

I do have some disc degeneration. As such, I still have some lower back pain and from time to time I need an atlas adjustment. Dr. McHenry addresses both issues during my maintenance visits.

Dr. McHenry has improved my quality of life. He can zero in on an issue without me even having to describe a sore spot or issue. He lets me know what he is going to do and I have always felt safe in his hands.
